Ryu Narutaki (Hayato Isomura) spends his days feeling fulfilled. He plays on his university’s ice hockey team alongside his teammates, including his best friend, Arata Oikawa (Koshi Mizukami). However, following a certain event, having inadvertently injured Arata and destroying his life in the process, Ryu abandons everything and heads to Berlin, where his childhood friend, Sumiko Shinonome (Ai Hashimoto), lives. Though he is grateful for Sumiko’s kindness for not pressuring him to reveal what happened, Ryu is unable to forgive himself. On a whim he enters a church and gets caught in an unexpected fire that nearly costs him his life, but he is saved in the nick of time by Hwang Johan (Ok Taec-yeon), a Korean boxer who just happened to be there. Several days later, Ryu accepts Sumiko’s invitation to accompany her to a boxing match. There, he again runs into Johan, who fights valiantly in the ring. At the insistence of Johan’s sister, Hwang Soo-ah (Lee Jae-yi), the four of them share a meal after the fight and drink the night away. Johan goes through life burdened by a certain sin, working to raise money to pay the tuition for Soo-ah, his only family. Despite the vast differences between the two men, just before they part ways in Berlin, Ryu asks Johan how to get in touch with him and promises that they will meet again. They exchange lighthearted messages while living separately in Tokyo and Seoul, but harsh times lie ahead for Johan.
