Jin comes face-to-face with the power of his heritage in American Born Chinese

Jin Wang is a surly teenager struggling with both home and school. The cultural gap between his parents' generation and his own is beginning to take shape and his home life is dominated by the tension he feels with his Chinese identity. Meanwhile, at a new high school, Jin is one of just three Asian students. Feeling isolated everywhere he turns, Jin needs something to change. On the first day of the new school year, something does. When Jin meets a foreign exchange student, he finds himself wrapped up in a mythical match-up between the Gods of Chinese mythology.
