Synopsis
Set in 19th-century Brazil, the story follows Isaura, a light-skinned young woman born in 1835 on the plantation of Commander Almeida. Her mother, Juliana, was a slave who died shortly after childbirth, and her father, Miguel, was a free man. Despite being raised and educated by Gertrudes, the commander's wife, Isaura remains enslaved due to her maternal lineage.
