Martin fears for the life of his girlfriend Andrea, who has been involved in an accident. He and his mother Elisabeth lovingly care for the patient, while Martin's brother Hans and his girlfriend Klara cannot hide their disappointment that their wedding has been cancelled due to the accident. On top of this, Klara's ex-husband unexpectedly shows up and causes some turbulence. Although Martin is heavily burdened by family concerns, he faces major medical challenges: the parents of a pair of sick twins refuse the proposed therapy, a young abuse victim faces the possibility of having AIDS, and a hiker in distress in the mountains suddenly shows signs of poisoning.
