Ben-Hur (1959)

A rich Jewish prince is betrayed by an old friend, leading him down the path of vengeance

At the beginning of the 1st century, Judah Ben-Hur is a wealthy merchant and aristocrat living in Jerusalem. His Roman childhood friend, Messala is given the position of commanding officer in Jerusalem, and the two are reunited after many years. But as it becomes clear that their politics have diverged since their youth, Messala sends Judah and his family into slavery, incurring his pursuit of righteous revenge. As the revolutionary teachings of a mysterious Nazarene spread across the land, Judah finds himself influenced by the rise of Jesus Christ while searching for his mother and sister.
