Gloria is sent to her hometown of Grimley to determine the profitability of the local coal mines. The workers there face the choice of either closure or privatisation. A talented flugelhorn player, she joins the workers’ local brass band – where she renews a romance with her childhood sweetheart, Andy. But no one knows the true nature of Gloria’s visit, and her decision will affect the livelihood of those she has befriended.
