Synopsis
Documentarian Mia Donovan delves into the story of controversial anti-cult deprogrammer Ted Patrick
In 1971, Ted Patrick began to develop and practice a hardline technique to ‘deprogram’ people who had been inducted into cults. Given the widespread activity of cults at the time, the deprogramming movement caught on fast, recruiting a variety of concerned parents, former cult members, and even politicians. However, Patrick himself came under increasing scrutiny for his past as well as his controversial methods. In this documentary, Donovan examines Patrick’s legacy while exploring the inexorable pull of the cult mindset.
