Protestant Minister questions his faith after a life-changing encounter

Lonely and grieving Reverend Ernst Toller tends to a historic but tiny church—First Reformed of Snowbridge—in upstate New York. One day, he gets shaken to his core after an encounter with a troubled young couple who are expecting a baby against the father's will. Following a tragic event, Ernst begins to suffer from health issues and spirals into existential despair, growing increasingly isolated and radicalized.
